CMA CGM Increases Rates for India and Pakistan

The French container line CMA CGM plans to increase its freight rates on the routes to India and Pakistan. The new rates will apply starting from the 1st of October of 2009 and will apply to all types of cargo.

For cargo shipped from India and Pakistan to Europe and the Mediterranean the rates will be increased by $250 for one TEU and by $400 for one FEU. On this direction the company is also introducing an additional charge of $150 for each TEU for containers whose weight exceeds 23 tones
.
For cargo shipped from Europe and the Mediterranean to India and Pakistan, the rates will be increased by $150 for one TEU and by $300 for one FEU.

According to CMA CGM, this increase is necessary for the company to be able to receive higher economic profits from shipments between India, Pakistan and Europe, which is part of the company’s recovery program after the global economic crisis.
