Port of Long Beach Container Volumes Stabilizing

The container volumes in the port of Long Beach, the largest container port in the US, have demonstrated a slow down of decline.

According to the statistics published by the port administration, in August the container volumes serviced by the port declined by 13.8% compared with the same period of last year.

At the same time, in July the volumes of containers serviced by the port declined by 23%, and in February this figure reached almost 40%. In total, during the first eight months of this year the port serviced 3.3 million TEU, a decrease of 25% year-on-year.

The port of Long Beach is the key part of the largest port complex in the US which also includes the ports of Los Angeles, San Diego, and a number of other port and terminal facilities in Southern California. Last year the port of Long Beach serviced 6.5 million TEU. In 2007 the port used up almost all of its capacity and managed to service 7.3 million TEU.
