CMA CGM Increases Rates on Asia-Europe Routes
18.09.2009

The French container line CMA CGM plans another freight rate increase on its routes between Asia and Europe.

This time the company increases the rates for shipping containers from the ports in Asia to North America and the Mediterranean. Starting from the 1st of October 2009, the increase will apply to all types of cargo on the above mentioned routes and will amount to $250 for each TEU.

As CMA CGM reports, this increase is necessary for the company to secure the most effective economical profits from the shipments between Asia and Europe.

The latest rate increase by CMA CGM on the Asia-Europe routes took place on the 1st of July of 2009. Back then the rates were increased by $300 for each TEU. The company has followed the example of Maersk and other large container lines who had increased their freight rates on this direction. Most container lines have considerably reduced their tonnage, which gave them an opportunity to increase freight rates.
