NOL Aims for More Efficient Fuel Consumption

The Singapore shipping company Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) plans to become more ecologically-friendly by applying new fuel system developed together with a Russian company. The new system will also allow NOL to save money by consuming the fuel more efficiently.
 
NOL container division APL has signed a collaboration agreement with a Russian company Neftech. According to Neftech CEO Viktor Levin, the new fuel consumption system will be implemented on 20 APL vessels within the next year.

“In the current highly competitive business environment, cutting costs, increasing effectiveness and reducing harm to environment are the key tasks for any company” - said NOL president Czhen Van Keung.

During the first half of this year NOL has already lost $391 million. The company has also implemented a number of cost cutting measures. Top-manager salaries have been reduced, 9% of staff were cut, and 15 container vessels were anchored.
